Back-contact technology is particularly effective in low-light situations, capturing more diffuse light and improving performance in the morning, evening and under cloud cover.
What is the impact to bifacial gain from a system installed on a sloped roof?
There are a variety of factors that influence bifacial gain, including surface albedo, panel tilt angle, and elevation of the array from the surface to name a few. In the case of a sloped roof, the array will need to be installed parallel to the roof (or flat on the roof), eliminating the ability to tilt the panels. The ability to generate energy from the rear side of the panel on a sloped roof is greatly reduced.
Can high heat impact bifacial panel performance and reliability?
High heat conditions generally result in solar panels producing less energy. However, the lower output is related to the panel’s temperature coefficient, and not a result of its bifaciality. TCL Solar panels tend to have a lower temperature coefficient than standard TOPCon panels, which means they’ll see lower rates of power loss in high heat. In addition, solar cells operate at lower internal temperatures, with panels rated to perform in environments up to 70° C, well above standard test conditions (STC) of 25°C.More specific to bifacial panels, higher temperatures could theoretically impact the reflectivity of the underlying surface. Some materials, a metal roof for example, are more apt to absorb and retain light versus reflecting it onto the rear side of the panel. So, as temperatures increase, certain materials may decrease bifacial gain by retaining more light as heat energy.
Are yield advantages reflected in simulation tools such as PV Syst ?
Yes, we have guidelines we can share to allow you to set PV Syst using our 3rd-party-validated PAN files. Third party validation from Dekra or SGS allow customers to have more confidence in what they are purchasing and better estimate of return on investment and LCOE (levelized cost of electricity)
Can bypass diodes activate as a result of rear side shading?
We have been actively testing our bifacial panels to better understand the impact of rear side shading in high irradiance environments. When rear side diffuse light is at low irradiance due to shading, bypass diodes will not activate.
Are there ways to increase albedo?
In the market there are certain products that apply to the surface of the roof or ground that are intended to increase the reflectivity. This could be a white polymer coating or light-colored gravel for example. Pricing varies based on the material and labor costs. Customers should work with their installation partners to understand available options for increasing the surface albedo under their arrays.
Do bifacial panels provide additional advantages for floating PV systems?
Possibly. The glass/glass framed construction of the bifacial panel provides additional resistance to water and salt ingress. However, careful analysis should be undertaken to evaluate variables such as panel tilt and elevation that may require stronger mounting BOS requirements to gain the full advantage of bifacial panels. It should be noted that floating PV is not currently covered under TCL Solar warranty. This should be approved on a project base.
Installation and compatibility
Will it work with my existing solar installation?
Can I increase my system’s kWp later?
Yes, in most cases—if your roof space and inverter allow it.
In C&I optimisers are added for safety. Will these panels be good for this?
Yes, optimizers are compatible with our panels. They can be added in the C&I applications.
How can I be sure that I can use a specific racking with your panels?
Specific requirements for the safe installation of the PV panels are contained within the Safety and Installation Instructions. Contents of this manual are subject to change without notice. We recommend you always consult the latest version before installing the PV panel. If anything is unclear, or if you have further questions, please contact us.
Can solar systems be customised for my business needs?
Do you offer solar panel installation for business projects?
I already have solar. Can it work with my existing setup?
How large will my solar PV system be?
Panels provide about 235-250 W per sq meter. This means that a 4 kW system will cover about 16-17 sq meters of your roof.
Does the W10 work with our existing solar inverter?
Yes. The W10 connects on the AC side and runs in parallel with your existing on-grid inverter, with no DC circuit modifications and no inverter compatibility checks required. It also works on sites with no PV at all.
Does it work with my existing solar panels?
What are requirements for bifacial panels to be installed on a roof?
When installing a bifacial panel on a rooftop, applicable building codes should be consulted to ensure the structural load of the building is suitable. Bifacial gain tends to be most effective when panels are installed with a higher tilt angle and elevated from the roof surface. As the installation angle and elevation increase, more reflected and diffuse light can be captured by the rear side of the panel. Additionally, mounting rails should be installed to limit rear side shading as much as possible.

Maintenance
Should I clean my solar panels?
Your system was designed with typical soil accumulation in mind, and seasonal rains are usually enough to adequately clear any soil or dust that might accumulate. We strongly recommend that you do not go onto your roof for panel cleaning or inspection. If severe soiling occurs and you feel it is absolutely necessary to clean the panels, you can clean them by spraying them from the ground with a standard garden hose. We recommend that homeowners only clean panels early in the morning or late evening rather than when the sun is at its peak or when the panels are warm.To clean a module, wash with potable, non-heated water. Normal water pressure is more than adequate, but pressurized water up to 100 bar may be used. Fingerprints, stains, or accumulations of dirt on the front surface may be removed as follows: first rinse off area and let soak for a short period of time (about 5 minutes). Re-wet and use a soft sponge or seamless cloth to wipe glass surface in a circular motion. Fingerprints typically can be removed with a soft cloth or sponge and water after wetting. Important things to keep in mind: As a rule, stay on the ground. Never get up on your roof without a secure ladder and proper fall-protection equipment. Turn off your system before you start cleaning. Consult your local Installer if you need help turning off your system. As a rule, avoid using hard, or mineral rich, water. It can damage panels over time. If your area only has hard tap water, you can buy an inexpensive water-softening hose attachment to filter out minerals. Otherwise, you can use distilled or de-ionized water. Use soft brushes and squeegees. Do not use harsh cleaning materials such as scouring powder, steel wool, scrapers, blades or other sharp instruments to clean the glass surface of the module. Use of such materials of cleaning without consultation will invalidate the product warranty. Clean early in the morning or in the evening when the panels are cool. During the heat of the day, water and soap can evaporate quickly, which risks smearing the soap and dirt. When using a high-pressure water nozzle, don’t get close to the panels. While they’re extremely durable, you don’t want to damage them. Do a monthly visual inspection to look for any dust buildup. Also, you can watch your bill for any noticeable drop in efficiency. Only then should you worry about cleaning. Even then, in most cases, nature is going to clean them for you. Don’t expose yourself to any risk. If you have any doubts about your ability to safely clean your panels, hire a professional.
What if a squirrel, a bird, or any other wildlife chews or in any way interferes with my solar system’s wiring and cables?
Animal guards and other preventive measures exist that may help deter wildlife from coming into contact with your solar system. Please contact your Installer for options and pricing.
Are there unique maintenance requirements for bifacial panels?
No. The general maintenance requirements in the TCL Solar safety and installation manual apply to both monofacial and bifacial panels. We recommend visual inspection on a regular basis of all panels for safe electrical connections, sound mechanical connections, as well as to ensure panels are free from corrosion. This inspection should be performed by trained personnel on an annual basis. Periodic cleaning of panels is recommended, but not required. Periodic cleaning has resulted in improved performance levels, especially in regions with low levels of annual precipitation (less than 46,3 cm). Customers should consult their installer or supplier about recommended cleaning schedules for their area.

Are shingled solar panels suitable for residential use?
Solar basics
Do solar panels work at night?
No. Without light, panels stop producing electricity. However, with a battery, you can use stored solar energy at any time.
Is kWp the same as kW?
No. kW measures the power of standard devices. kWp is specific to solar panels and represents peak power under test conditions.
How do solar panels work?
When sunlight strikes a solar cell, it dislodges electrons from atoms, creating an electric current. Connectors on the cell's positive and negative sides form an electrical circuit. This flow of electrons generates electricity. Solar panels consist of numerous cells, and you can connect multiple panels to create a solar array. The greater the number of panels you use, the more energy you can produce.
Do solar panels work during cloudy weather?
Yes, modern solar panels can still generate electricity during cloudy or low-light conditions. Advanced solar technologies are designed to maintain efficient performance through different weather conditions. Panels capture diffuse light that passes through clouds. Output is reduced, but typically remains between 10% and 75% of peak capacity.
Are solar panels useful in winter?
Yes. Shorter days reduce production, but cooler temperatures slightly improve efficiency. Winter still contributes meaningfully to annual output.
How does shade affect the solar system’s performance?
Solar panels operate most efficiently when they’re able to soak up as much sun as possible. Let your installer evaluate your particular situation and provide some options for you.
Why should I limit shading from trees?
To maximize system production. Trees, plants, rooftop antennas, satellite dishes, and other obstructions can block the sunlight from reaching the panels. If any portion of the panel is shaded, your system will produce electricity at a reduced level. Should you need to trim vegetation or move objects that might shade the panels, please do so during the daylight hours and use caution.
How do solar systems work?
A photovoltaic (PV) solar system is comprised of solar panels, racks for placing the panels on your roof, electrical wiring and an inverter. From sunrise to sunset, the solar panels generate electricity (DC) which is sent to an inverter. The inverter converts the DC electricity into alternating current (AC), which is the type of electricity required for household use. The AC power is delivered directly to your home’s main electrical service panel for use by you and your family.
How efficient are solar power home panels?
Modern residential solar systems deliver excellent energy generation, especially with best solar panels designed for improved low-light performance and higher efficiency.
What are Solar Panels Made of?
PV solar panels are like puzzles made of tiny solar cells, enclosed in glass. These cells are made of silicon, a bit like computer chips. They have a positive part and a negative part that work together to make electricity, kind of like a battery. Solar panels also have special glasses, adhesives and coatings to protect these cells and keep them working well even in different weather conditions.
